Due to alot of technical difficulties with our computer system this week, accessing the internet, and even our personal file was impossible. I have not been able to blog or work on my newsletter for about three days, due to these problems. So.. today, when i finally got accesswas very excited to get started! I logged onto www.collegeincolorado.org, and began my research. I took alot of notes on topics that I felt would help the seniors understand financial aid. This week, I am going to be focusing on FASFA and the steps involved in making sure you have it. Tomorrow, I will begin putting my articals together. Unfortunately, this newsletter will not come out until mid-next week.

Today I thought I would share with you an article that will be featured in this weeks newsletter, and online on the Bucaneer. It is titled "Making the Right Decision"
Making the Right Decision
Some people rush into college, and it is one of the biggest mistakes they can make. You want to make sure you are choosing college, don't let it choose you. Some questions you should ask yourself before picking a college is:
What are my priorities and interests?
What are my career goals?
What needs do I have, especially if I'm going to attend a school away from home or even out-of-state?
Personally, I know a numerous amount of people who have told me they rushed thier decision on where to go to college, and ended up somewhere they weren't satisfied with. Before making a final decision on where you want to go, you need to do a fair share of research on the college. Including expenses, rooming, classes, loans, financial aid, text books, courses, and much more. If you know where you want to go in life, go for it. Just make sure that you know exactly where you want to go, before you risk making a mistake.

This article is intended to help students make the right decision, and realize that it can have alot of affect on you.

Today, we had a sub, so I was not able to have Mrs. Vermillion look over the newsletter, but I had some of the students in my class read and make suggestions about it, and I printed it off. It should be distributed tomorrow and I am looking forward to all of the feedback I get back.

Unfortunately, I was not at school yesterday, so I did not have access to the blog. But today, I continued with the Inventory quizes that I took last week, and began to put the information and results into action. I used my results as an example for the seniors, showing them how accurate the quizes can really be. My results were very very close to what I plan on doing in life. Not only did I reflect on what the website did for me, but I reflected on what it can do for my fellow students. I came up with 2 to 3 very valid articals, and incorporated them into my newsletter.

Today, I got on collegeincolorado.com and took 6 inventory quizes designed to point you in career directions based on your strong points/skills. I took these tests because in my next news article, I am going to highly encourage the seniors to do this themselves, that way they have the opportunity to see what the website sees in them. But before recommending this to the seniors, I wanted to take the quizes myself, so that I would be able to relate to them in my newsletter. I think if the students take these quizes seriously, it will definately help them in a very positive way.

Today, I read over some of the feedback that I got from the first newsletter of this semester, and I really liked the things I got. Instead of putting alot of different information into one newsletter, I did one huge artical that I really thought the seniors could relate to. Apparently, this was a good idea. Many of the seniors liked the story and information I reported on. Today, I am starting more research for the second newsletter of this semester. I found alot of good information, and am very pleased with how much I got done for the day.

Today, the first news article of this semester was distributed. Another difference that will be taking place this semester is that after I have distributed a newsletter out to the seniors, I am going to ask for feedback. I got some last semester, but i would like more. I think that if I get the opinions of the students of what else they would like to see in the newsletter, I can get them the info they want; this way, the articles will have more purpose. Hopefully, if things go the way they are planned to, I am going to be getting alot of feedback each week!

Today, I edited and revised my news article, and emailed it to Mrs. Vermillion. I will also be writing a weekly article for the online paper, and I have decided that it would be a good idea to incorperate that article with the newsletter. This way, the information will be accessable in two different places. I think that not only helping the seniors prepare, but also keeping them updated in what is currently happening will be good for them. They need to learn how to balance more than one thing at a time, this way, when college rolls around, they will be prepared for whatever comes their way!

This semester, I am not only going to be accessing information, but I am going to be putting it to use. I am really in the mind set to not only provide the seniors with useful information, but to show them how to put it to use. Today, I wrote more about the steps and procedures that are neccessary to prepare for college. I am also reading a lot on collegeincolorado.org about how going to college can be a very rough experience, if you are not prepared and ready for what you are about to face. I think this information is key in preparation. You MUST be prepared, and you MUST recognize the differences that are going to be present.

This semester,I am going to do some things a little different. Not only will i be providing students with information, but i am going to be relating the information to them personally. Today, i began working on the first article of this semester. i used a new "College Guide" packet that Mrs. Vermillion had, and i began reflecting on the information in the packet. It included information about how preparing for college is something that has to be done during all 4 years of high school. it also gives information about all the steps that are nessicary to take during the 4 years of high school. it was actually very interesting, and i think the students will enjoy this newsletter.
