May 6, 2010

Today is the last day of my online blogging. I gathered up all the work I have done this year, and I am beginning to prepare for my presentation to Mr. Finley on Monday.

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

May 4, 2010

Today I finished the last newsletter of the year, and I began working on my end of the semester COS paper. I will put the articles, the paper, and the blog together in a booklet somewhat like last year, and present it all to Mr. Finely next week at our meeting.

April 26, 2010

Today I finished the newsletter I have been working on, putting the finishing touches on the collegeincolorado.org quizes, and destributed them out. I think I am going to do one more newsletter, and then for the last two weeks of school, begin asking the students about thier future college plans so that I can release that information out to the community and fill them in on the hope and achievements of the 2010 seniors! I will have those done by the end of the year.

April 20, 2010

Today, I began working on this week's newsletter. I was absent yesterday because of the field trip to Denver. I have been researching more information online, but decided to use different informational sites, and give collegeincolorado.org a break because I tend to get a lot of my information from there. I will continue working on this newsletter through out this week.

April 14, 2010

This week's newsletter is in the making. I just finished my beginning article on college atmosphere and how to balance school with fun. Today I began the second article in the newsletter. I am also going to include a section in the newsletter with a link of my e-mail, so that seniors can conatact me and give me thier feedback that way.

Monday, April 12, 2010

April 12, 2010

I started asking around to see what the seniors would like to see in thier newsletter, and took notes on what I think could help it become a better source of information. I also began working on this week's newsletter. I gathered some of the old newsletters and put them into a folder for organizational purposes.

April 6, 2010

Today I finished working on the article I started yesterday, and posted the past few newsletters onto the Buccaneer Online. This way, the information will be accessable to more people; including parents. I will begin my next article on 'college preparation' tommorrow.

Monday, April 5, 2010

April 4, 2010

One thing that I realize is that we are only down to one more month of school left. Most of the seniors, if not all of them, know what they are going to do after high school. colleges have been selected, and plans are made. So writing articles about scholarships is pointless, because they are already past that point. I now need to focus on helping then transistion. I will begin writing and reflecting more on what it is like in college, the atmosphere & environment changes, and how they can better prepare themselves for what is in front of them.

April 4, 2010

Today I finished taking the career quizes that I had started last week, and posted the results within this weeks newsletter. I also researched a very interesting article on financial aid that I think the seniors will find very interesting. I began an article on this information

April 1, 2010

Today is the last day of the week, and I have already completed and distributed this week's newsletter. Since I have a free day, I have decided to take some more "career" quizes on collegeincolorado.com and post the results in next weeks newsletter. I have been doing a lot of research and the tests and exams that the website offers seems to offer a lot of information to the seniors.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

March 30, 2010

Today, I finished up on this weeks newsletter on college tips and the review of collegeincolorado.org.

I also got out a lot of my old articles, and reviewed them, to see if there is any helpful old information that i woudld like to add into the new newsletters.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

March 23, 2010

I continued working on this weeks newsletter, and included information on some of the 'culture' shock many small town students experience when they get into a college atmosphere. One of the most major shocks to many is the size of the classes. In our high school, classes are less than 20 students. In college, they range from 40-400 in one class. I included all of this information and much more in the newsletter.

Monday, March 22, 2010

March 22, 2010

I had to blog this information as soon as I was informed with it. One of the seniors just approached me and showed me a spelling error he found in one of my newsletters. He just wanted to bring it to my attention. THIS EXCITED ME SOO MUCH! This showed me that the students are truly reading the information and getting something out of it. I loved the feedback, and I'm glad they are using the information I am providing.

March 22, 2010

Well, I have had almost two weeks off for spring break, and I am just now returning. Over break, I visited many colleges, and got brochures from each of them. I brought the brochures and packets back so that the seniors could have access to them. By now, the seniors already know where they are going to college, and what they want to do. My goal is to try to fill them in on the aspects that come along with college. Such as..scholarships, financial aid, loans, books, courses, campuses, and the atmostphere in general. I began my next newsletter today, and I have included the college course catalogs inside.

March 10, 2010

For the past few days, I have been working on the senioritous newsletter that Miranda usually does, because of her absence due to senior sneak. I have been posting the articals onto the Buccaneer, and using that as my COS. There will not be a new newsletter this week, but I have got a lot of good feedback on last weeks, and when I return from spring break, I am planning on having each senior write a brief description of what they are planning to do after high school, and why they chose this path. all of the senior's reflections will be posted on the Bucaneer AND included in my next newsletter.

Monday, March 1, 2010

March 1, 2010

Today, I continued to work on my senior newsletter. I took some of the research from last week, and continued to put it into an article. I thought it would be a good idea to write and reflect on the timeline involved in getting ready for college. My research shows that this timeline should began very early in one's life. Even though seventh grade may seem a bit early.. you can always do something to better prepare yourself for college. The artical that will be in this week's newsletter shows what steps and cautions should be thought about and taken care of in each stage of your life. hopefully, the seniors will be able to use this article as a check-list, go back through thier own personal experiences, and recognize what they have accomplished, and what is yet to be done. This way, they know what skills and procedures they may be lacking. I hope that each step included in this timeline will relate to the seniors in some way.

February 22, 2010

Today, I started this weeks newsletter. I did a lot of research on collegeincolorado.org, and got a lot of new ideas. I picked the template and started my designing. I found some info on scholarship tips, and how to juggle your first year in college. I think this info will be very helpful to the seniors. I will continue the articals tomo.

February 18, 2010

Due to my absents, I have no been here at the school to blog. I also have not startedt his week's newsletter.. BUT... I have been reading in some of Mrs. Markle's college planning books, and getting a lot of new and fresh ideas on what to include in my coming newsletters. I believe that the best way to get useful/helpful information is to research, and make sure that the info you are finding, will relate to each and every one of the seniors.

For the past week, I have been working on school report for Mr. Finley. It was alot of work but it definitely taught my alot about publisher, deadlines, and being rushed to get the best out of something. This was not just a high school project, this was something that is sent into the state, and requires alot of hard work and dedication. We finished this project up last week, and I will begin doing the senior newsletters again this week.

Today, I continued working on the article about the FASFA meeting in Limon. I also went out and talked to some of the seniors, to see if they would be interested in attending. I got some positive feedback, and am looking forward to seeing how many decide to take the step forward, and participate. I should be wrapping the newsletter up tommorrow.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

February 2, 2010

Today, I began working on this weeks newsletter. I was home sick yesterday, so I am starting today. One of the major things I am focusing on this week, is the FASFA meeting that is being held in Limon, Colorado on Feb. 11. It will be in the Limon High school computer lab, from 4:00pm-7:00pm.

I feel that this is something that the seniors of Genoa-Hugo school need to be a part of. I truly feel that it will help them, and open their eyes to FASFA. You never know, they might pick up on a few things that they missed out on before. I also think that it is a good idea for some juniors to attend, just so that they have a jump start on thier senior year. I am writing the article on this topic now.

January 28, 2010

Due to alot of technical difficulties with our computer system this week, accessing the internet, and even our personal file was impossible. I have not been able to blog or work on my newsletter for about three days, due to these problems. So.. today, when i finally got accesswas very excited to get started! I logged onto www.collegeincolorado.org, and began my research. I took alot of notes on topics that I felt would help the seniors understand financial aid. This week, I am going to be focusing on FASFA and the steps involved in making sure you have it. Tomorrow, I will begin putting my articals together. Unfortunately, this newsletter will not come out until mid-next week.

January 21, 2010

Today I thought I would share with you an article that will be featured in this weeks newsletter, and online on the Bucaneer. It is titled "Making the Right Decision"

Making the Right Decision

Some people rush into college, and it is one of the biggest mistakes they can make. You want to make sure you are choosing college, don't let it choose you. Some questions you should ask yourself before picking a college is:

What are my priorities and interests?
What are my career goals?
What needs do I have, especially if I'm going to attend a school away from home or even out-of-state?
Personally, I know a numerous amount of people who have told me they rushed thier decision on where to go to college, and ended up somewhere they weren't satisfied with. Before making a final decision on where you want to go, you need to do a fair share of research on the college. Including expenses, rooming, classes, loans, financial aid, text books, courses, and much more. If you know where you want to go in life, go for it. Just make sure that you know exactly where you want to go, before you risk making a mistake.

Kayla Nestor

This article is intended to help students make the right decision, and realize that it can have alot of affect on you.

Today, we had a sub, so I was not able to have Mrs. Vermillion look over the newsletter, but I had some of the students in my class read and make suggestions about it, and I printed it off. It should be distributed tomorrow and I am looking forward to all of the feedback I get back.

January 19, 2010

Unfortunately, I was not at school yesterday, so I did not have access to the blog. But today, I continued with the Inventory quizes that I took last week, and began to put the information and results into action. I used my results as an example for the seniors, showing them how accurate the quizes can really be. My results were very very close to what I plan on doing in life. Not only did I reflect on what the website did for me, but I reflected on what it can do for my fellow students. I came up with 2 to 3 very valid articals, and incorporated them into my newsletter.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

January 13, 2010

Today, I got on collegeincolorado.com and took 6 inventory quizes designed to point you in career directions based on your strong points/skills. I took these tests because in my next news article, I am going to highly encourage the seniors to do this themselves, that way they have the opportunity to see what the website sees in them. But before recommending this to the seniors, I wanted to take the quizes myself, so that I would be able to relate to them in my newsletter. I think if the students take these quizes seriously, it will definately help them in a very positive way.

January 12, 2010

Today, I read over some of the feedback that I got from the first newsletter of this semester, and I really liked the things I got. Instead of putting alot of different information into one newsletter, I did one huge artical that I really thought the seniors could relate to. Apparently, this was a good idea. Many of the seniors liked the story and information I reported on. Today, I am starting more research for the second newsletter of this semester. I found alot of good information, and am very pleased with how much I got done for the day.

Monday, January 11, 2010

January 11, 2010

Today, the first news article of this semester was distributed. Another difference that will be taking place this semester is that after I have distributed a newsletter out to the seniors, I am going to ask for feedback. I got some last semester, but i would like more. I think that if I get the opinions of the students of what else they would like to see in the newsletter, I can get them the info they want; this way, the articles will have more purpose. Hopefully, if things go the way they are planned to, I am going to be getting alot of feedback each week!

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

January 6, 2009

Today, I edited and revised my news article, and emailed it to Mrs. Vermillion. I will also be writing a weekly article for the online paper, and I have decided that it would be a good idea to incorperate that article with the newsletter. This way, the information will be accessable in two different places. I think that not only helping the seniors prepare, but also keeping them updated in what is currently happening will be good for them. They need to learn how to balance more than one thing at a time, this way, when college rolls around, they will be prepared for whatever comes their way!

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

January 5, 2010

This semester, I am not only going to be accessing information, but I am going to be putting it to use. I am really in the mind set to not only provide the seniors with useful information, but to show them how to put it to use. Today, I wrote more about the steps and procedures that are neccessary to prepare for college. I am also reading a lot on collegeincolorado.org about how going to college can be a very rough experience, if you are not prepared and ready for what you are about to face. I think this information is key in preparation. You MUST be prepared, and you MUST recognize the differences that are going to be present.

January 4, 2010

This semester,I am going to do some things a little different. Not only will i be providing students with information, but i am going to be relating the information to them personally. Today, i began working on the first article of this semester. i used a new "College Guide" packet that Mrs. Vermillion had, and i began reflecting on the information in the packet. It included information about how preparing for college is something that has to be done during all 4 years of high school. it also gives information about all the steps that are nessicary to take during the 4 years of high school. it was actually very interesting, and i think the students will enjoy this newsletter.
